Manchester United, Liverpool plotting a move for Boca Juniors talent Kevin Zenon
Unlike the Glazers era policy of signing only big-name players, Manchester United focussed on young talents in the summer, all under the age of 26.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made it clear that unearthing the next gem is what INEOS plans to do at Old Trafford and scouts have been told to scour the globe for the best young talents.
As relayed by The Peoples Person, the new co-owners plan to focus on the South American market, an area that United have not paid attention to in recent years but usually keeps producing superstars.
There have been links with various South American upcoming talents like Estevao Willian, Thalys just to name a few and a new name has cropped up courtesy TBR Football.
South American talent
The Red Devils are keeping a close eye on Boca Junior’s versatile left midfielder Kevin Zenón after missing out on Aaron Anselmino who decided to join Chelsea instead.
The 23-year-old can play all across the left flank and even in midfield and his left-footed profile is something that is missing from the current squad.
He has an affordable release clause of £12.7 million written into his current deal and is widely expected to leave next summer should a potential suitor offer him an interesting project.
The 20-time English league champions are not the only Premier League team in the race with arch-rivals Liverpool also scouting the Argentine U23 international.
Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle are also keeping a close watch while teams from Spain, France and Italy are also ready to pounce.
“Liverpool have now joined Manchester United and other top Premier League clubs in the battle to sign a precocious talent. TBR Football understand that Liverpool have now joined the race to sign Kevin Zenon from Boca Juniors.
“It is believed that Tottenham and Newcastle are also keen to sign the 23-year-old. TBR Football have also been told that the South American is widely expected to leave Boca Juniors in 2025.
Zenon is a player in demand
“But despite four Premier League clubs showing interest, the Premier League is not certain to be his destination, with teams in Spain, France and Italy monitoring his situation as well.
“Zenon is believed to have a £12.7m release clause written into his Boca Juniors contract, so to secure his signature, a convincing project will have to be presented, rather than simply bidding the highest amount.”
While the fee is certainly not an issue, it will be interesting to see whether INEOS actually swoop. Last season, Zenon had notched four goals and seven assists.
Erik ten Hag’s current set-up does not utilise a left midfielder and any left-footed attack-minded player is usually used on the opposite flank.
