Manchester United face stiff competition for sensational Spanish left back Miguel Gutierrez

Manchester United face competition from Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund if they are to sign Girona’s Miguel Gutierrez.

The Red Devils barely played a recognised left back after Christmas as Sergio Reguilon, who has recently been linked to a move back to Old Trafford, was sent back from his loan spell to Tottenham Hotspur in the January window.

Luke Shaw was also only able to play 15 games all season due to injury and Tyrell Malacia did not play a single game throughout the campaign owing to severe knee problems.

Therefore, Fabrizio Romano has already confirmed that the club will certainly aim to sign a new left back this summer and one player who they have “genuine interest” in is Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.

The Red Devils have also been linked to Spain’s Miguel Gutierrez, with his attacking displays from left back astounding all of Europe as little-fancied Girona qualified for the Champions League last season, finishing a valiant third, just four points behind Barcelona.

It has already been relayed here that Ten Hag is keen to sign the player.

Spanish daily AS reports that United are one of the sides interested in the full back but they face competition as the defender’s future is still very much up in the air.

The Catalan club are described as being in a state of “tense calm” as “there are many players in their squad who are on the radar of big European clubs”, including the left back, after such a fine season last year.

“At 22 years old, he has many European clubs dazzled, but the red and white team trusts that he will continue for at least one more year.”

In Girona’s favour, the player is “seduced” by playing in the Champions League but he reportedly dreams of playing for Real Madrid, who have the option to buy him back for just €8 million.

Nonetheless, any other team looking to purchase the player, such as Manchester United, would need to meet his release clause of €35 million as he is contracted until 2027 to Girona.

The paper states that “Girona is his priority, but there are other clubs that are knocking on his door, such as Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund, and of course, he doubts.”

Therefore after his participation in the Olympic Games for Spain ends in August, he will have a choice of whether to stay where he is, go to Real Madrid or move to the Premier League or Bundesliga.

Fichajes however report that Real Madrid “are not considering” his return and in fact, Arsenal are another English side that want to sign the fantastic fullback.

Ultimately, “his ability to perform in a more advanced role and his versatility on the field caught the attention of numerous observers” and if United do want to make a move, they will surely have to work hard to convince the player. He will have numerous suitors, many of whom, like the Gunners, will have Champions League football to offer.
