Pre-season always intensifies focus on Manchester United’s academy talents, with fans hoping to see young stars making their mark and eventually pushing the first-team door wide open.

Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo’s performances under Erik ten Hag in his first two seasons at the helm have further heightened the excitement among the fan base. This while many are expecting Toby Collyer to become the ‘next Mainoo’ and solve the club’s midfield issues.

United’s academy is also blessed with promising attackers, with the likes of Ethan Wheatley and Joe Hugill attracting positive headlines with their exploits. Hugill even scored for the senior side against Rangers over the weekend with an emphatic finish.

Ten Hag has also handed valuable minutes to Ethan Ennis against both Rosenborg and Rangers and the 19-year-old forward certainly did not disappoint.

He has seemingly also impressed the club’s senior figures, as United have rewarded him with a new contract.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Ennis has signed a new contract at Old Trafford. His previous deal was due to expire next summer.

Ennis, who joined United’s academy from Liverpool’s youth setup in 2021, is one of the most highly-rated talents at the club and the new contract reflect the club’s opinion about his potential.

As per the aforementioned source, the Englishman’s professionalism at Carrington has impressed academy staff.

It appears Ten Hag also admires Ennis as he is set to include him in this summer’s pre-season tour to the USA.

United’s youth sides may soon be bolstered by another attacking prodigy, as the Red Devils are reportedly working on luring Chido Obi-Martin away from Arsenal.

The Danish striker has been a standout talent in North London, impressing many with his physicality and finishing ability. However, it is understood he is considering his options before signing his first professional contract.

Last week, the 16-year-old visited United’s Carrington training facilities. At this point, discussions between the parties are thought to be at an early stage, though there is hope a deal will be struck for the attacking starlet.
