Manchester United are reportedly a more likely destination for Federico Chiesa than Napoli or other Serie A clubs.

The Red Devils are expected to improve their wing options in this summer as the majority of their wide options failed to live up to expectations last season.

The club is said to be happy to let Antony and Facundo Pellistri leave, but there have been no suitable offers for either player yet.

In addition, Mason Greenwood is on the cusp of joining Olympique de Marseille, after finally agreeing to join the Ligue 1 side yesterday.

It was also thought that Jadon Sancho would depart but his reintegration in the first team squad has made his exit less clear and Erik ten Hag’s comments of “as we said, we draw the line. Manchester United need good players and Jadon is a good player. We have drawn that line and we move on”, suggest he wants him to stay.

It is still possible that Sancho leaves however, and Juventus have been reported to be very interested in securing the services of the wide man.

Nonetheless, a permanent transfer seems financially out of reach so Italian reports have previously suggested that the Old Lady might offer 26 year old Federico Chiesa as part of the deal.

Italian TV station CalcioNapoli24 add to this story and suggest that United would be considered favourites to land the winger at this moment in time.

Journalist Nicolo Ceccarini stated, “Chiesa? Certainly, respected by Conte, but if there is an Italian team that was really interested it was Roma. But if he didn’t stay at Juventus, I would see him more abroad, perhaps at Manchester United.”

The Red Devils have been linked to Chiesa in the past and scouted the player back in 2020 when he was playing at Fiorentina.

United clearly have other priorities at the minute as they have signed striker Joshua Zirkzee and are currently working on deals for three centre backs, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Jarrad Branthwaite.

It is also thought that once they sign a defender or two, they will pursue a midfielder, with Manuel Ugarte the most mentioned name as of now.

A lot will depend on the real situation with Jadon Sancho. If he genuinely is set to stay at Old Trafford, a winger does not appear to be top priority.
