Manchester United are mulling over whether to sell the naming rights to their Old Trafford home.

That is according to a report from The Athletic’s Adam Crafton, as part of stadium plans under part-owner Jim Ratcliffe.

The club are considering selling the rights to a refurbished Old Trafford or a newly-built stadium in a bid to increase revenues.

It has been home to the club for 114 years and never before have the naming rights been sold, despite other clubs across the Premier League opting to do so.

Initial discussions with Bank of America among other financial institutions have taken place as they explore funding options for their stadium project.

Should United opt to go down the avenue of a refurbishment to Old Trafford as it currently stands, one potential option may be to have an associated partner for the stadium rather than a complete sale of the naming rights.

An example provided is that of Wembley Stadium which has a full title of Wembley Stadium, connected by EE, for which the network provider pay up to £10m per year, or closer to home, Manchester’s cricket ground is known by the official title of Emirates Old Trafford.

However, the club are open to selling the full naming rights in the event that they decide for a completely fresh build.
