Manchester United have confirmed the addition of four academy youngsters to the first team, ahead of the side’s opening Premier League clash against Fulham on Friday.

Dan Gore, Harry Amass, Toby Collyer and Ethan Wheatley have been included in the first-team squad, with all four players being handed squad numbers and making an appearance on the club’s official website.

Gore spent the first half of last season around United’s senior set-up and made his debut for the Red Devils in September against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.

He joined United’s academy from Burnley and was originally a forward before transitioning into his current deeper midfield role. Gore was part of the team that won the FA Youth Cup in the 2021/22 season, starring alongside Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Gore is likely to miss out on a loan move this summer as he continues his recovery from a freak injury that disrupted his time at Port Vale last term. The 19-year-old will sport the No. 44 for when he returns to action for United.

Amass, who has been given the No. 41 shirt, has yet to make his debut for United but amidst the club’s struggles in the left-back position, it feels like it’s only a matter of time until he receives the opportunity.

Amass was a standout performer for the 20-time English champions during the US pre-season tour as he started all three games vs. Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool.

There was an expectation that he would be thrust into the starting XI in the Community Shield clash against Manchester City but Erik ten Hag revealed that he felt the full-back was not quite ready yet to come up against some of the most established and experienced players in world football.

Amass made five appearances for the under-18s last season, including in the U18 Premier League National final against Chelsea, in what was a 2-1 win for the Reds.

Wheatley is another who will mix it with United’s elite players at Carrington, with the forward handed the No. 36 shirt.

He made his debut as a substitute in April’s 4-2 victory over Sheffield United at Old Trafford, before going on to feature against Crystal Palace and Arsenal. The 18-year-old became United’s 250th academy graduate when he came on in the home meeting with the Blades.

Collyer (No. 43) joined the extensive list of academy starlets to have graduated from United’s youth system when he got a taste of the action at Wembley against Pep Guardiola’s men on Saturday.

The 20-year-old impressed Ten Hag during pre-season and was a constant presence in the Dutchman’s teams. It was previously stated that Collyer will not be loaned out in the 2024/25 term as he will be allowed to continue with his development under Ten Hag.
