Manchester United have announced the arrival of Rúben Amorim from Sporting CP as their new head coach.

He replaces Erik ten Hag, who was sacked on Monday after two years in charge following a poor start to the campaign.

Amorim takes over from the Dutchman on an initial contract until 2027 which includes the option for another season and he will start work on November 11.

The 39-year-old is one of the most exciting young coaches in world football and was closely linked with Liverpool, Barcelona and West Ham during the summer before deciding to remain in Lisbon.

However, he has now opted to depart for Old Trafford, bringing an end to a successful four-year stint at Sporting, where he broke the Benfica and Porto duopoly by leading his side to two separate league titles.

Throughout his time in the Portuguese capital, he has tended to play with a fluid 3-4-3 system.
