Manchester City XI vs Slovan Bratislava – Predicted Line and team news
Manchester City take on Slovakian champions Slovan Bratislava on matchday two of the UEFA Champions League this week.
Pep Guardiola’s team will want to get their campaign up and running after being held to a goalless draw by Inter Milan in their opening fixture. The Citizens have drawn three of their last four games in all competitions after being held by Newcastle United in the Premier League at the weekend.
Their opponents will start as huge underdogs for the clash at the Tehelné pole, having reached the group stage of this competition for the first time in the Champions League era. Vladimír Weiss’ side were thrashed 5-1 at Celtic in their first fixture and now take on the 2023 champions in Bratislava. Weiss’ son, also named Vladimir, will be a familiar face to the Manchester City fans having begun his senior career at the Etihad. The midfielder made five first-team appearances for the Blues.

Manchester City team news
Pep Guardiola could make changes to his team as he looks to keep the Citizens fresh for this weekend’s Premier League clash with Fulham. Though Guardiola will not be complacent, a European clash with the Slovakian minnows can offer the chance to get some much-needed minutes into other members of his squad.
Guardiola has confirmed that City could be without Kevin De Buyne until after this month’s international break, while Rodri’s season is over after undergoing ACL surgery. Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb are the other confirmed absentees.
PEP 💬 [Slovan Bratislava] is a team that I would say plays with courage. I saw the game against Glasgow Celtic and they were not scared to play. Not scared to link with their striker and they want to try it… I always have incredible respect for all the teams, especially when… pic.twitter.com/UPKZ4h1eQz

Phil Foden could start after limited involvement in the season’s opening weeks with the Manchester City midfielder introduced off the bench at Newcastle at the weekend. The 24-year-old has started just twice in all competitions this season as he has been eased back into action following involvement in the Euro 2024 final and illness. John Stones is another who could be handed a start, while Stefan Ortega is expected to replace Ederson in goal.
Further forward, Matheus Nunes will want to build on a Carabao Cup goal against Watford, while Savinho and Jeremy Doku could return after starting on the bench at the weekend.
Manchester City predicted lineup
Manchester City predicted lineup: Ortega; Lewis, Stones, Akanji, Gvardiol; Nunes, Kovacic; Savinho, Foden, Doku; Haaland.
