Manchester City vs Wolves: Latest City team news and predicted City starting lineup

Manchester City take on Wolverhampton Wanderers later today at Molineux as Pep Guardiola’s side return to Premier League action after the international break. The champions are the only unbeaten side in the Premier League after yesterday’s results. They will face a Wolves side who sit bottom of the table after the opening 7 games of the season. But no game is a formality so City will have to be at their best to pick up all three points today.

Latest Manchester City team news

On the injury front, Rodri and Oscar Bobb are out of today’s match with long-term injuries. But there has been positive news on the injury front for the world champions.

Nathan Ake and Kevin De Bruyne have both returned to training in a boost for the champions. But Pep Guardiola told the media Friday that today’s game may come too soon for both to return against Wolves.

There are also doubts over the availability of Ederson, Savinho and Manuel Akanji for today’s match. Ederson and Savinho returned to training late after their international duties with Brazil. Pep Guardiola told the media that Manuel Akanji picked up an injury ‘issue’ while on international duty with Switzerland. A decision on his availability will be made closer to kick-off today.

Predicted Manchester City starting eleven

Ederson- City’s number-one keeper should start today if he is fully fit after his international duties with Brazil.

Rico Lewis- It is a toss-up between Kyle Walker and Rico Lewis for the right-back role today. I’ll give the nod to Lewis as I believe he will be required to step into midfield against Wolves.

Ruben Dias- An automatic selection at the back on form. Has started the season well and will be looking to continue that today.

John Stones- With Manuel Akanji in doubt for today’s match Stones should partner Dias at centre-back.

Josko Gvardiol- The Croatian international is City’s first-choice left-back. Gvardiol should today.

Mateo Kovacic- Kovacic has become crucial to Manchester City in Rodri’s absence. He scored a brace against Fulham a fortnight ago and will be hoping to bring that form to Molineux today.

Ilkay Gundogan- With Gundogan retired from international football he should be refreshed for today’s match. He will be hoping to put in a good performance if he does start given he has had several nearly moments during City’s recent matches.

Bernardo Silva- The Portuguese international should start today’s match. He may well line up on City’s right wing if he does start.

Phil Foden- Foden has slowly been building into the new season. If he starts he will be hoping to put in a performance that shows he is returning to his best.

Jack Grealish- Grealish is almost an automatic selection on the left wing based on his display for England last week. If he can continue that form he could be a match winner today.

Erling Haaland- City’s star striker should start today’s match. Haaland will be hungry to continue his hot start to the new season.
