Manchester City to unveil brand new kit against Chelsea in Premier League action
PUMA and Manchester City are due to unveil a brand new kit to supporters in their Premier League clash with Chelsea on Saturday evening, it has been confirmed.
Pep Guardiola and his players will be hoping to return to winning ways after a dismal night in the French capital of Paris, as a two-goal lead was thrown away in the final 35 minutes with PSG winning 4-2 in a crunch Champions League encounter.
This weekend brings about fresh excitement however, as Manchester City and their supporters are prepared to welcome in three new signings into their matchday squad at once for the first time since their official unveilings earlier this week.
Defensive pairing Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis were signed by the club from RC Lens and Palmeiras respectively, while Omar Marmoush arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt to bolster the goalscoring department.
But it seems as though the fresh look on the pitch will extend beyond the playing personnel, with the Premier League champions due to unveil a brand new kit on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium against Chelsea.
As confirmed by Manchester City earlier this week, in what will be a first for world football, the Premier League champions will showcase a bespoke new goalkeeper kit designed by first-team stars using ‘generative AI’ on-pitch this weekend.
It is revealed that Ederson, Stefan Ortega Moreno, and Rico Lewis designed the limited-edition goalkeeper kit using PUMA AI Creator – a generative AI design platform featuring text prompting, customisation tools and intuitive sliders.
Supporters will be able to purchase the limited edition goalkeeper kit in the UK as an in-store exclusive at the Etihad Stadium and in the Arndale Centre on Saturday 25 January.
At a launch event, Ederson shared his thoughts on seeing his personal creation come to life for the first time, “It’s the first time I’ve designed a shirt together with Stefan (Ortega Moreno) and Rico (Lewis).
“I’m so happy I’ll get to see our shirt on the pitch. It looks amazing – the colours are so nice, they remind me of the colours of Brazil.”
There remains a feeling within the industry that Manchester City could yet introduce two further kits this season for their outfield stars to show off, which could be unveiled for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States in the summer.
That will follow this campaign in which PUMA and design officials unveiled the club’s first-ever fourth kit, paying tribute to Oasis’ iconic ‘Definitely Maybe’ album and part-designed by member, Noel Gallagher.
