Manchester City not interested in RB Leipzig and Spain’s Dani Olmo

Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly not in the market for RB Leipzig and Spain attacking midfielder Dani Olmo, despite reports elsewhere.

Media reports from both Spain and Germany have heavily linked Etihad Stadium officials with an interest in the 26-year-old over the last week, largely stemming from his outstanding showings at the ongoing European Championships.

Olmo’s three goals and two assists have put the player at the top of many clubs’ transfer radar, alongside the emergence of a £50 million release clause, which is understood to expire on Saturday 20 July, following Spain’s qualification for the Euro 2024 final on Sunday night.

Whilst Manchester City are continuing their search for fresh midfield recruits this summer, and a number of names on the radar ahead of a crunch period ahead of the new 2024/25 season, a new report has issued an update on supposed interest in Dani Olmo.

The update comes after Spanish media linked the four-time successive Premier League champions with an intensified push for the talent over the ‘last few hours’, sparking clarification on the matter from English media.

Now, according to the information of talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, it is stated that Manchester City are indeed not in the market for RB Leipzig and Spain attacking midfielder Dani Olmo, contrary to reports emerging in Spain.

It remains to be seen who Manchester City could turn to in the coming days and weeks as they look to strengthen their attacking midfield ranks, with Newcastle United and Brazil international Bruno Guimaraes still believed to be a primary target.

Etihad decision makers opted against signing the 26-year-old earlier this summer via his release clause at St James’ Park, which was understood to have been worth a staggering £100 million fee prior to its expiry last month.

Despite the lack of a direct route to the player’s signature via a contractual clause, there remains hope within the City camp that a deal could yet be done for Bruno Guimaraes, with a budget of around £85 million allocated to a deal, should the player be open to a move.
