Manchester City head coach Taylor provides positive fitness update for Miedema
Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that attacker Vivianne Miedema has undergone minor surgery and he does not expect her to be sidelined for a lengthy period.
The Cityzens confirmed news of Miedema’s knee surgery earlier this week. The announcement did raise some concern amongst the club’s fanbase.
Manchester City head coach Taylor spoke with the media this afternoon and he was able to provide a further update on the player’s fitness which should put fans’ minds at ease.
“It was a minor procedure, a little niggle that Viv had that we felt may have gone away,” Taylor said. “After discussing it with the surgeon, they decided to do a small procedure and I think it’ll really help her.
“She has made a huge contribution and I don’t see that contribution changing, though it might not be on pitch [in the short term]. She’s been fabulous with the young players and the girls in general and the impact that she has had on the pitch so far has been top, she’s added real value to us, another dimension.
“Getting herself right with this surgery, getting really fit and strong, we’ll have an advanced version.”
Taylor was asked about a timeframe for Miedema’s recovery. He didn’t provide dates but said that the player is itching to get back on the training pitch.
He said “We haven’t put a timescale on it at all. I’m pretty certain it was some sort of keyhole surgery, so I don’t think it will keep her out for any particularly long period but you never know what the time back to pitch looks like.
“Knowing Viv, I just spoke with her and she said that she’s ready to run which is maybe slightly ambitious on her front but that’s just her in a nutshell; she wants to be back out with us and she’s really enjoying her football.
“Like I said, I think we will get an improved version when she’s back.”
Miedema joined Manchester City in the summer and has scored two goals in five games for the club so far.
