Manchester City to formally announce signing of new left-back with ‘all documents’ completed
Premier League champions Manchester City are now on the verge of formally announcing a deal to sign a new left-back for their club roster, according to reports.
The arrival of the new left-sided defender could be one of three defensive signings at the Etihad Stadium this month, as Txiki Begiristain and his colleagues go in search of new faces from both the European and South American markets.
In France, there is a firm interest from Manchester City to bring in Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens, with the Uzbek centre-back valued by his current employers in the region of £35 million, according to various reports.
Information from Brazil has also surfaced since Wednesday night indicating that City are also keen on a move for Palmeiras’ 18-year-old centre-back Vitor Reis, with the intention from the English giants to integrate the teenager into their first-team set-up immediately.
Now, in a deal that was completed several months ago, Manchester City are also preparing to formally confirm the signing of a player that has been developing strongly within the wider City Football Group.
That is according to the information of transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, who reports that ‘all documents’ are now signed for New York City’s 17-year-old left-back, Christian McFarlane to join Manchester City, with a formal announcement to come this month.
Links between the two clubs over the teenage talent first emerged three years ago, when it was revealed that Manchester City had invited the then-15 year-old to their training ground and discussed a possible move for 2024.
Those discussions and the connection between all parties followed links between McFarlane and a sensational move to German football, with both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund understood to have been rejected.
In March 2024, City were then said to be closing in on a deal to sign the New York City FC left-back amid mentions of interest from German football, and it now appears as though the defender is due to confirm that switch in the coming weeks.
