It is no surprise to see that Manchester City would face a battle to sign Adam Wharton.
It is no surprise to see Adam Wharton linked with clubs such as City and Liverpool. The young midfielder has shown during his time at Blackburn Rovers and Crystal Palace that he has the tools and temperament to thrive at the highest level. Since arriving at Crystal Palace he has shown himself to be one of the most promising young midfielders in the Premier League. Playing as a number 6 Wharton has shown that he has a maturity beyond his years defensively. That is a trait that bodes well for a move to a bigger club. Going forward he also has the game to be a weapon when his team has possession. His eye for a pass and goal is such that he becomes a weapon when Palace have possession. For a player who is 20 years of age, he looks to be the complete midfield package.
It is no surprise to see that Manchester City have earmarked Wharton as a player for the future. The time is coming when the champions will need to find a player who can assist Rodri in midfield. Mateo Kovacic does the role for Pep Guardiola’s side currently. The Croatian midfielder has impressively begun the 24/25 season stepping into Rodri’s role. But the Croatian international is 30 years of age. At some point, the champions will need to regenerate their midfield with fresh legs. Adam Wharton could be one such player who could add youth and talent to City’s midfield in time.
It’s no surprise to see Sami Mokbel’s report indicate that Liverpool is also monitoring Adam Wharton. The young midfielder is a player who will command interest from a host of clubs across England and Europe. He is that good. If Manchester City do identify Wharton as a player to regenerate their midfield they made to pull out all the steps to ensure he decides that a move to the Etihad is the best step for his young career. That could be something to watch for next summer if the world champions do see Wharton as the ideal player to add to their midfield stocks.
