With the transfer window beginning to kick into gear Manchester City looks set to cash in on another young player. A new report has emerged that young striker Liam Delap is on the verge of completing a move to Ipswich Town. Once again the champions look set to make a sizable sum on a young player who has risen through the ranks of City’s academy. It is a tried and tested method for Manchester City which helps keep the club at the top of the English game.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Liam Delap is on the verge of signing newly promoted side Ipswich Town. Romano further reports that City and Ipswich Town have agreed on a deal for the young striker. Furthermore, Romano adds that a £15 million fee with £5 million in add-ons will see Delap seal his move to Ipswich Town. Lastly, Romano adds that City have inserted a buy-back clause and a sell-on clause in the deal.

The ability of Manchester City to cash in on their young talent is an invaluable weapon for the champions.

City’s imminent sale of Liam Delap continues a familiar pattern for the champions. They have made a habit of cashing in on young players in recent seasons. Last summer they sold several young players which is an invaluable weapon for the club. In an era where net spend and financial fair play regulations are big pieces of the football landscape their selling of young players aid’s the champions in that specific area. It is also a credit to City’s academy system that they are regularly producing players who are ready to play at the highest level. While certain players don’t break into City’s first-team they prove to be more than capable Premier League players. Manchester City’s academy has become a football factory in recent seasons and other clubs have reaped the benefits of City’s youth system.

Manchester City have already made a tidy profit this summer from selling one promising defender. After a successful loan spell at Southampton last season Taylor Harwood-Bellis completed a permanent move to the club. TalkSport reported that the champions sold the young defender to Southampton for £20 million.

It now appears that Liam Delap is set to fetch the champions a tidy transfer fee. It is shrewd business by Manchester City and it helps keep them at the top of English football. The incoming revenue they make selling top young talent funds City’s transfer dealings to beef up the first-team. It is an underrated and invaluable weapon for the world champions and one that they continue to profit from.
