Those hoping to see the first summer Manchester City signing in action during the upcoming pre-season tour of the United States are set to be left disappointed.

Pep Guardiola and his players are scheduled to resume duties at the City Football Academy early next week, spending a few days at their Manchester training base before jetting across the Atlantic for a pre-season tour of the United States.

Manchester City bosses have pencilled in a four-game tour of the east coast of the country, taking on some of Europe’s biggest clubs at several iconic venues, with the Etihad club catering for their rapidly growing American fanbase.

However, despite the hope that the US tour could mark the debuts for multiple new signings, there is now a chance that Manchester City supporters watching the return of their club could see no new faces in the Sky Blue shirt.

That comes despite Manchester City being on the verge of securing the first signing of the summer market, with ESTAC Troyes forward Savio joining Pep Guardiola’s project in a big-money move – believed to be worth around £40 million – within the City Football Group.

But according to the information of journalist Rômulo Giacomin, Savio – who is expected to pen his new City contract in the coming weeks – will be left out of the club’s pre-season tour of the United States this summer.

Whilst Manchester City recommence for pre-season training on Monday 15 July, the aforementioned Brazilian international will not be present, and will only begin training with Pep Guardiola’s side when they return from their pre-season tour of the US.

Savinho is currently away on holiday following his exploits with Brazil at the Copa America, and the player will be taking full advantage of his permitted downtime to ensure he returns to the football pitch rested and rejuvenated for the intensity of Manchester City’s schedule.

The player is set to put pen to paper on a five-year agreement at the Etihad Stadium in the coming days and weeks, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2029 at the earliest, with the understanding being that City intend to keep hold of his talents this season.

There had been some belief in various quarters that Manchester City could look to loan out the player to one of Europe’s top clubs for the forthcoming season, but will instead add him to their forward line already starring the likes of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez.

At present, it remains unknown as to where Pep Guardiola views Savio in terms of his positional availability, but assessments will no doubt be made immediately upon his arrival at the City Football Academy in August.
