The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office held its monthly DUI saturation patrol on Friday, heading into Memorial Day weekend, and issued tickets to impaired drivers, the agency said in a press release on Saturday.

Deputies handed out 59 citations and issued 27 warnings. The release said that two drivers were arrested for driving impaired, and three other drivers were also detained on misdemeanor charges.

The sheriff’s office also wants to remind drivers to wear seat belts, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Click It or Ticket” campaign is currently in effect and will run through June 4.

“Click It or Ticket” is a campaign to remind drivers and their passengers of the importance of buckling up and the legal consequences — including fines — for not wearing a seat belt, the NHTSA website says.

The sheriff’s office will conduct its next saturation patrol on Friday, June 2.
