Internal talks have taken place at Manchester United about signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney and his Everton counterpart Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to The Athletic.

The Englishmen each have one year remaining on their contracts and have indicated they will not be signing new deals at their clubs as they are looking to move.

Man United are already closing on the acquisition of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, but another forward could be added to their attacking ranks if major sales can be made in the coming weeks.

Toney is valued at £60 million by Brentford, but some believe the Bees might accept a figure closer to £40m, while a deal around £30m is viewed as plausible for Calvert-Lewin as the Toffees are willing to sell him given their financial situation.

The Toffees star has scored 54 goals in 214 Premier League games while the Brentford star has 36 goals in 83 English top-flight games, and landing the duo or one of them could be a game-changer for the Red Devils.

Man United have scored 115 Premier League goals over the last two campaigns under manager Erik ten Hag, and they clearly need to do more in the attacking third if they are to start challenging for major titles going forward having won just the FA Cup and Carabao Cup in recent seasons.

Ten Hag may now have to decide which striker to add to Zirkzee once the Netherlands international is signed, and he will not be short of transfer targets.

27-year-old Calvert-Lewin demonstrated his fitness last season after recent campaigns with injury issues, and he will be desperate to prove himself at another club after his season-best of 16 league goals in 2020-21.

Toney is already impressing for England at the European Championship after a long ban limited him to just four goals in 17 league games last term.

The 28-year-old bagged 32 Premier League goals in the two seasons preceding 2023-24 and snapping him up will do Man United plenty of good as the best is yet to come from him.
