2023/24 was a campaign of indifference for Manchester United, but their FA Cup victory may well have saved Erik ten Hag's job.

Ineos are at the helm and have already overseen a sea of change within the club's hierarchy. Movement is now expected in terms of personnel ahead of the new campaign, with Ten Hag aiming to build upon the sturdy foundations he built in his first season but deserted in his second.

A busy summer is expected at Old Trafford and supporters should be seeing a bunch of new faces donning familiar shirt numbers at the Theatre of Dreams.

Here are United's squad numbers for the 2024/25 season.

There was plenty of shirt number movement ahead of 2023/24, with David de Gea's number 1 being taken by backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir with Andre Onana opting for 24.

Mason Mount took on the fated number 7 shirt but endured an injury-ravaged debut campaign, while Rasmus Hojlund, with number 9 unavailable, donned 11 after joining from Atalanta.

There will be movement on the squad numbers front before 2024/25 squad submissions are made, but here's the current situation.

Man Utd shirt numbers available to new signings

United's newbies will have plenty of options in regards to shirt numbers this summer. Number 3, which was vacant last season, remains an option for a new defender and United could add a left-sided centre-back or full-back to their ranks.

Raphael Varane's number 19 is also on the table after he left the club following the expiration of his contract. Any new striker, meanwhile, will be eyeing up Anthony Martial's 9 shirt. The Frenchman joined his compatriot in leaving as a free agent this summer.

Numbers 13 and 15 represent less desirable teen alternatives, while 26, 27 and 30 are other options for new additions. Of course, other numbers will open up should current playing staff move on.

What numbers can Premier League players wear?

Shirt number rules are relaxed in the Premier League. Players can wear any number between 1 and 99 as long as it's unique within their squad.

First-teamers will typically don shirts between 1 and 30, with goalkeepers typically taking either 1 or 13. Onana, however, bucked that trend last summer by taking 24.

Can Premier League players change squad numbers?

Players can change squad numbers, but not whenever they please. There do have a couple of windows throughout the course of the season, however.

Any switching of shirt numbers must be done before a specific deadline every season. Typically, this is when clubs submit their confirmed squad list for the upcoming season. This deadline usually arrives following the conclusion of the summer transfer window at the start of September.
