Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte played a starring role as the Reds claimed a crucial 3-0 win over Leicester City to move close to the top four, with Chelsea, Arsenal, and Nottingham Forest dropping points over the weekend.

The Uruguayan destroyer dominated the centre, overpowering Boubakary Soumare and Wilfried Ndidi, with Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho scoring to secure the win.

Ugarte made more tackles than any other Premier League player in GW11 (eight). The 23-year-old won 10 of his 19 duels while making three interceptions in a combative display.

His passing, which has come under fire since he joined the club in the summer transfer window, was much improved against the Foxes. He completed 47/51 passes (92% accuracy) and even created one big chance that the Reds failed to convert.

Ugarte enjoyed a much better outing in the Premier League after his utterly shambolic display versus Chelsea last week. Hopefully, this performance is a sign of things to come.

The former Sporting CP and Paris Saint-Germain star is one of the players expected to benefit from the arrival of new manager Ruben Amorim. The pair worked together in Portugal before his big-money move to France, where he struggled for form and consistency.

United will hope Amorim can get the best out of the midfield operator, solidifying the club’s markedly brittle centre.

However, there are other questions surrounding different positions in the team. Who partners Ugarte in the middle in Amorim’s favoured 3-4-3 system, which he will likely employ again in England?

Also, United have several pure wingers like Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony. They might not be able to fit in as inside forwards.

Playmaker Bruno Fernandes doesn’t have an allotted place in the system either, and Amorim would need to fit him in. Only time will tell how the highly-touted manager can fit all these players together
