Manchester United face a critical transfer decision with midfielder Donny van de Beek this summer.

The Red Devils must sell the Dutch international in this transfer window after he failed to impress during his time at Old Trafford.

According to Manchester Evening News, United are working on a permanent exit for Van de Beek and won’t let him leave for free.

His current contract with United expires next summer which is making it tough for the club to offload him.

He is free to negotiate with overseas clubs from January 1 and that is putting off potential suitors.

Van de Beek made only two appearances for Erik ten Hag’s side last season. He spent the second half of the year on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, he failed to shine in his eight outings with the German club.

It is astonishing that he has not played a full ninety minutes in over two years.

Frankfurt signed him on loan with a £9.5 million buy-clause in the deal but the Bundesliga outfit decided against using the option.

Van de Beek is expected to report for pre-season training on July 8, along with the rest of the squad who are not on international duty.

He currently earns £90,000-per-week which is more than the established United players like Rasmus Hojlund, Diogo Dalot and Scott McTominay.

The Red Devils signed him from Ajax in a deal worth £35 million in the summer of 2020.

United would be delighted to receive any transfer fee for Van de Beek, considering his career has nose-dived over the last four years.
