Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for former Liverpool defender Neco Williams this summer, according to a recent report.

The Wales international graduated from Liverpool's academy having initially joined the Reds in 2007, making 33 appearances for the club as he won the Premier League and FIFA Club World Cup.

Big things were expected from the right-back but Liverpool decided to sell him in 2022, receiving £17m from Nottingham Forest for his signature.

Williams has been in and out of the Forest first team since his move to the Midlands, but has still racked up an impressive 68 appearances for the club.

However, the 23-year-old is reportedly interesting a whole host of clubs this summer, including Liverpool's arch rivals Man Utd as they search for defensive reinforcements.

According to HITC, Forest will have to fend off significant interest in Williams this summer.

West Ham United have already seen a player-plus-cash offer for the full-back rejected, with Forest insistent that the young talent is not for sale.

However, their resolve may be tested in the coming weeks, with the report stating that he has 'attracted attention' from European giants AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen, both of whom can offer Champions League football.

Joining Bundesliga champions Leverkusen would also see him coached by former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.

But Man Utd, Tottenham and Newcastle United are all supposedly keeping tabs on Williams as the window progresses.

Erik ten Hag has already added Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro to his squad this summer but may need to sign a new right-back if Aaron Wan-Bissaka departs Old Trafford.

Williams' versatility and potential would make him an interesting addition for any prospective buyer, although he may not be popular with Liverpool supporters if he were to make the move to Man Utd.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool placed a 15% sell-on clause in Williams' contract when he left Merseyside, meaning the Reds will earn a little extra cash if he leaves the City Ground in the next month.
