Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte was visibly happy when the Red Devils quickly closed in on a deal for Ruben Amorim on the same day they sacked Erik ten Hag, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Old Trafford club parted with the Dutchman on October 28, 2024, before announcing on November 1 that Amorim would succeed him as the permanent head coach.

However, it became immediately clear in the Man United dressing room after Ten Hag was fired that the Portuguese was set to become their next boss, and Ugarte was more than happy to reunite with his former manager.

The Uruguay international joined the Red Devils in the summer from Paris Saint-Germain after just a season in France.

He had spent two seasons at Sporting CP before moving to the Ligue 1 club, and he could not have imagined that he would be working with Amorim again.

Ten Hag did not want Ugarte signed but former Man United sporting director Dan Ashworth did, and it is no surprise that the midfielder could not contain his excitement once it became clear who was replacing the Dutchman.

The 23-year-old has become a force to be reckoned with at Man United following an uninspiring start to life at the Theatre of Dreams under Ten Hag, featuring in 11 out of the 12 games the Portuguese has overseen since taking over, missing one game as a result of a suspension after accumulating five yellow cards.

Ugarte has been one of the consistent top performers under Amorim, and Casemiro is expected to leave after falling behind him in the pecking order.

Ashworth did not last long at Man United, but helping them to land the Uruguay international could prove to be his most important job at the club and one of the best transfer decisions the Red Devils have made in a long time.
