Manchester United have reportedly slapped a £25m price tag on Antony in the hope that the money netted from his sale will fund a swoop for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.

Antony is one of the players United are willing to sell this summer. A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are even willing to let him leave on loan, provided a club will cover his wages.

His agent told Fabrizio Romano that Antony has no interest in departing Old Trafford and his focus is fully on getting his place back in Erik ten Hag’s starting XI.

The Red Devils forked out a hefty £85million (€100m) sum to secure Antony’s services from Ajax. To say he has failed to live up to his price tag would be a massive understatement. The Brazilian has managed just five goals and three assists in 54 Premier League appearances.

Last term, his performances were a constant source of frustration for fans and unsurprisingly, he lost his place in the team to Alejandro Garnacho. Towards the latter stages of the campaign, even Amad Diallo usurped him in the pecking order.

It was recently stated that Besiktas are eyeing the 24-year-old but he’s not too enthused about the prospect of completing a switch to the Super Lig.

Other clubs linked to Antony include Lille and his boyhood team Sao Paulo.

According to TEAMtalk, United do indeed want to offload the winger but they’re aware that it will not be easy to find an outfit prepared to buy him.

“Sources have revealed to TEAMtalk transfer correspondent Fraser (Fletcher) Gillan that they [United] are open to selling Antony, who has been a gigantic waste of money so far.”

“TEAMtalk can exclusively reveal that Man Utd now accept that they overpaid by a massive amount when they signed Antony and now see his true value at around £25m.”

“Man Utd are keen to see if there is interest in the market for Antony, but face a few major roadblocks even if a club are willing to match his reduced price tag.”

“The 24-year-old is under contract until 2027, with an option for a further year. That is one point the Red Devils’ see as a ‘major issue’ and therefore will hope he can come good if he’s not sold.”

The news outlet adds that United are eager to use the money brought in from Antony’s exit to bring in Trevoh Chalobah.

Chalobah has been mentioned as a target for the 20-time English champions in their bid to bolster the attacking department.

It seems almost certain that Chalobah will get a move in the coming weeks after Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca left him out of his pre-season plans.

As per TEAMtalk, United sporting director Dan Ashworth and his associates have held talks with Chalobah’s representatives to explore the possibility of getting a deal over the line.
