Man United touch base with Sevilla regarding Olympic champion and versatile ace Juanlu Sánchez
Right wing proved to be a difficult position to crack for Erik ten Hag last season amid Antony’s poor form and the huge falling out with Jadon Sancho.
Marcus Rashford had made it clear that he preferred the left wing and the Dutchman finally was forced to try out Alejandro Garnacho there and he soon made the spot his own.
Following Amad Diallo’s emergence, the need to play the Argentine out of position is no longer a requirement and United and with INEOS keen to move on Antony, another right-sided attacker would fit well into the system.
United have identified a versatile gem in Sevilla’s Juanlu Sánchez who could potentially solve multiple problems should the Red Devils acquire his signature moving forward.
Sanchez interest
In fact, as per ABC Sevilla, the 20-time English League champions had even spoken to Gaby Ruiz, a close confidante of Sevilla sporting director Victor Orta, about the young Spaniard.
United had closely followed the 21-year-old’s exploits over the course of the Summer Olympics, which Spain won, and asked for information about Sánchez.
“The sporting management of the Blanquirroja, through Gaby Ruiz, one of Víctor Orta’s closest collaborators, was asked by emissaries from Manchester United about Juanlu who was followed with interest during the exceptional tournament that he had.
“Sevilla has also awarded a prize for the best player of the month of August as a culmination of his gold medal. Nothing more happened since then and there were no offers for him, but the interest was evident.”
Versatile genius
While only 21, the Sevilla star can play all across the right wing and was used as a right-back during the Olympics. But he can also play centrally in midfield as seen from La Liga games this season and even as a support striker.
Such versatility would be a huge boost to Ten Hag as a lot of these areas are light on depth and could do with additions moving forward.
The Spaniard also fits INEOS’ profile of recruiting young and has a market value of only €15 million as per Transfermarkt.
Interestingly, his contract ends in 2026 and with one year remaining, United could potentially land him on the cheap next summer should they want.
