There was a lot of excitement last summer when Manchester United pulled off a loan deal for Sofyan Amrabat on deadline day. His exploits during the Qatar World Cup were still fresh in the memory of the fans.

Casemiro, arguably Erik ten Hag’s best signing in his debut campaign, struggled to adapt to the manager’s new high-transition style and it was felt that the Moroccan would step up.

The Fiorentina star looked overwhelmed by the pace of the Premier League, not helped by the fact that he arrived on the back of not having a proper pre-season.

Ten Hag’s insistence on using him as an emergency left-back shattered the 27-year-old’s confidence further and that showed as he committed a few high-profile mistakes including one in the Manchester derby.

Amrabat’s difficult loan spell

United seemed unlikely to buy him permanently at one stage with both the midfielder and United regretting the summer move while other clubs circled.

But a strong end-of-season showing including a mammoth display in the FA Cup final meant he did his chances of earning a permanent stay a world of good.

United are open to bringing him back but not on the terms previously agreed. Those terms have become invalid upon the expiration of the loan deal.

Another loan could be on the cards and now, The Manchester Evening News have claimed that the Morocco international is hellbent on leaving Fiorentina.

He has not rejoined training, as was the case last summer as well, and is open to joining any other English club if United do not come back.

Desperate to leave Fiorentina

“Sofyan Amrabat is not training with Fiorentina amid his efforts to secure a move away from the club this summer. The midfielder has not returned to Fiorentina’s training ground, Viola Park.

“Amrabat was absent as Fiorentina defeated their youth team 5-2 in a warm-up match on Sunday. The 27-year-old Morocco international is eager to extend his stay at United but would be open to joining another Premier League club.

“Erik ten Hag has been due to discuss the possibility of buying Amrabat with new sporting director Dan Ashworth, technical director Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada.”

Ten Hag is due to discuss Amrabat’s future with the United hierarchy. It has been relayed by The Peoples Person that INEOS would prefer Manuel Ugarte to come in but the manager will insist on the former Utrecht star.
