Man United goalkeeper Hubert Graczyk promoted to first team amid Andre Onana errors
Manchester United have promoted academy goalkeeper Hubert Graczyk to the first team squad.
First choice goalkeeper Andre Onana started the season in remarkable form but his performances have significantly waned in recent weeks.
This was emphasised after a horror showing versus Brighton and Hove Albion, when he made two errors in the second half which resulted in the Seagulls winning the match.
Back up keeper Altay Bayindir impressed heavily in the FA Cup victory over Arsenal, saving a penalty in the match and also in the shootout, but has had his fair share of hairy moments in the first team as well.
It now appears that United may have to dip back into the transfer market to enhance their goalkeeping department with the likes of long-term targets Illan Meslier and Zion Suzuki linked once again with a move to Old Trafford.
The club may have solutions in their academy however, as The Manchester Evening News report that summer signing “Hubert Graczyk was seen training on the pitch with Onana and Bayindir in the pre-match preparations.
“The young goalkeeper hasn’t been officially named in a matchday squad, but he’s been briefly promoted to the first-team set up to help United prepare for their last matches.”
“Graczyk was spotted warming up with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir before United faced Arsenal in the FA Cup third round. He was put through his paces, facing shots from his teammates, and was present again before Thursday’s match again Southampton in the Premier League.”
Regular third choice keeper Tom Heaton watched the Southampton game last week from the director’s box.
“Graczyk is thought to have impressed coaches and could eventually be promoted to the first-team on a permanent basis.”
The 21 year old left Arsenal as a free agent in the summer and has played three games for the under 21s.
He has not played for the academy side since conceding five goals in a 5-2 loss to Sunderland at the start of November.
