Man dies after firefighters pull him from Spanaway house fire

A man died in a fire Monday morning after firefighters in Spanaway pulled him from a burning house, according to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue. Officials said the man was believed to be in his 50s.

The fire was reported by a passerby just before 7 a.m. in the 1200 block of 199th Street Court East. In a Facebook post, Central Pierce fire crews said firefighters arrived to find flames spread throughout the home. A vehicle was in the driveway, and neighbors said they believed a man was trapped inside.

Firefighters tried to get the fire under control and search the structure for people, according to the post. Crews said both the roof and the house’s floor were in poor shape.

The man was found unconscious inside at about 7:26 a.m., crews said. He was removed from the house, and personnel began life-saving measures. The man was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, and he died from his injuries. He has not been publicly identified.

“Central Pierce Fire & Rescue offers heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” the fire department wrote on Facebook.

It’s unclear how the fire started or where it originated. According to the Facebook post, an investigation is ongoing.
