Maloney out of Heidenheim squad after handing in transfer request
If there was any doubt, it's now clear that Lennard Maloney has no future at FC Heidenheim.
The USA international was left out of the Heidenheim squad for the club's final two games of 2024 due to a lack of focus amid speculation over his future.
With six months remaining on his contract, Maloney has decided he wants to leave the club, and he will therefore not be in the squad for Saturday's clash with FC Union Berlin either.
"We spoke to him again at the training camp because it was important for me to clarify the situation once more," said Heidenheim coach Frank Schmidt at a press conference on Friday.
"He told us that he still wants to leave in the winter and anyone who knows me knows that I need players who see a future here. I'm focusing on players who are focused on us," he added.
At his press conference, Schmidt also confirmed that Mathias Honsak will miss the game against Union with a muscle problem and that Leo Scienza is a doubt.
Marvin Pieringer is out as well through suspension.
