There is more bad news in store for Ruben Amorim, as his new Manchester United pupil Mason Mount could remain on the sidelines for several months.

The 25-year-old was in the starting lineup in the recent Derby showdown against Manchester City, operating as an attacking midfielder.

Nevertheless, the Englishman’s outing only lasted for 14 minutes, as he succumbed to yet another injury, forcing the manager to reshuffle his plans by introducing Kobbie Mainoo in the middle of the park and pushing Bruno Fernandes further up the field.

Mount was visibly frustrated as he left the field, before vowing to return stronger in an emotional message he later posted on social media. For his part, Amorim initially admitted that his player would miss several weeks of action, but it appears that the injury turned out to be worse than initially feared.

So according to TalkSPORT, the former Chelsea man won’t take the field before March, in what will be an agonizing blow for the player as well as his head coach.

After all, Amorim had previously described the England international as the perfect player for his 3-4-2-1 system, tipping him to thrive under his guidance.

“You can look in his eyes that he wants this so bad. And this is the most important thing for me,” noted the 39-year-old in a previous press conference (before Mount’s latest setback).

“I know he was suffering from injuries, he was not on the pitch, but now he’s trying to stay fit and we hope he can continue to be fit, to show all the talent that he’s shown, for example, in Chelsea.”

“He played in this system [before], so it’s perfect for him. I have two positions for him, so he should be very happy!”

Alas, Mount’s untimely setback means Amorim must find alternative solutions.
