‘Magnificent, unbelievable, brilliant’ – Ian Wright reacts to major Arsenal transfer development
Arsenal completed a transfer deadline-day move for England international attacking midfielder Raheem Sterling, signing the 29-year-old on loan for the rest of the season from Chelsea.
The Gunners do not have an option to buy the former Manchester City star permanently at the end of the campaign but Sterling will hope to seal a permanent move by impressing manager Mikel Arteta over the coming months.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has reacted to the move, insisting it is magnificent, unbelievable and brilliant given the quality and experience of the former Liverpool attacker.
“That is a magnificent move for Arsenal, magnificent move for Raheem at this stage of this career with everything that is happening at Chelsea,” Wright said on Premier League productions.
“For Arsenal to get a player of that calibre, with that experience, with a manager that he knows, with a manager that really helped him with the trajectory to the top, it is an unbelievable deal for Arsenal. It is a brilliant deal for Arsenal.”
The North London club were keen to bolster their attacking ranks this summer and eventually settled for Sterling, with a loan deal perfect for them financially.
The Jamaica-born forward was at Emirates Stadium today to watch his new side against Brighton & Hove Albion and could be making his debut when they take on Tottenham Hotspur after the international break on September 15.
Having bagged 173 goals and 103 assists in 549 games over the last 13 seasons, Sterling brings much-needed quality and experience to the Arsenal attack, and his winning mentality, having won four Premier League titles, will come in handy as the Gunners eye their first league title since 2004.
He is desperate to return to the England national team after being omitted from the Euro 2024 squad, and he has enough motivation already as he looks to prove himself all over again at the North London club.
