According to David Ornstein, Olympique Lyonnais owner John Textor has entered into advanced negotiations to take over Everton. The Eagle Football Group CEO is now in a period of exclusivity to pursue a potential takeover which would see him assume Farhad Moshiri’s majority stake in the Premier League club.

Moshiri has placed the Toffees for sale and Textor is the latest person to express their interest in a takeover. Dan Friedkin was the previous businessman to express his interest but a deal fell through. The Everton owner also previously reached an agreement with Red Star owners 777 but a prospective takeover could not be completed.

Issues remain

Despite the Lyon owner expressing his interest in taking over the Merseyside club, there are still some issues which are preventing a deal from going through. Textor is a minority shareholder at Crystal Palace and his stakes in the London club would have to be sold before he could complete a takeover of Everton.
