Lyon owner John Textor confirms plans to purchase English club
Olympique Lyonnais owner John Textor has confirmed his plans to buy the majority share in an English club during a seminar at Olé Sports Summit.
The American businessman who also owns Botafogo in Brazil and RWD Molenbeek in Belgium had recently been in talks with Everton over becoming their majority shareholder. However, his offer was declined by Fahrad Moshiri who instead went with the offer from AS Roma owner Dan Friedkin.
Despite this setback, Textor still intends to continue his plans to buy an English club, meaning he will be looking to part with his 45% share in Crystal Palace which currently precludes him from owning another team in the English league. Textor confirmed his plans at the seminar, where he stated, “We are looking to acquire a club where we can have a majority stake.”
John Textor not limiting his search to the Premier League
Textor is not ruling out looking at clubs below the Premier League as he clarified that he would also be considering teams in the Championship, “We are also open to second-division clubs that we think can be promoted.”
