Luton defender Mengi to be sidelined 'for months'
Luton Town defender Teden Mengi is facing "months" on the sidelines after having surgery on a knee injury suffered a training session, says manager Rob Edwards.
The 22-year-old missed Saturday's 1-1 draw with Swansea City having featured in 15 of the Hatters' previous 18 games of the season.
"Teden will be out for months now. It's just an innocuous one, passing the ball in a passing drill and he's had an operation," Edwards told BBC Three Counties Radio.
"It's just another blow but we're getting used to those."
Mengi was called-up for England Under-21 duty last month and posted a message to supporters via Instagram on Saturday in which he gave details of an initial knee injury he sustained playing against Fulham in May, that he decided against an operation for.
"I was advised that surgical action should be taken but the decision was ultimately left in my hands and I chose against it," Mengi said.
"There comes a point where it starts to become dangerous so I have opted to take surgical action. I can assure you I will do everything in my power to get back to 100%," he said.
Luton were also without former Brentford midfielder Shandon Baptiste for the draw against Swansea because of a calf muscle injury.
