Lupita Nyong'o Wore Blue to the 2024 Oscars to Commemorate Her 'Introduction to Hollywood' 10 Years Ago

"I am so grateful to have won back then, and to still be receiving opportunities to attend again to celebrate my peers’ performances," Nyong'o wrote on Instagram

The color blue has a special meaning for Lupita Nyong'o!

In a sentimental and motivational Instagram post on Saturday, the actress, 41, explained why she chose to wear a custom periwinkle Armani Privé gown with glitz and fur-like details to the 2024 Oscars.

"I wore blue to this year’s Oscars to pay homage to my introduction to Hollywood 10 years ago," she captioned a carousel of images of her at the Oscars in 2014 — when she won a Best Actress in a Supporting Role award for her performance in 12 Years a Slave — and at the event in 2024.

Nyong'o's dress for the 2014 awards ceremony was a Prada gown in a bright shade of baby blue that had ethereal vibes and helped the then-newcomer to the industry make a memorable mark.

"What was fresh then may be familiar now, but I believe in the power of harnessing childlike wonder at every stage of life," the Black Pather star's post continued. "I am so grateful to have won back then, and to still be receiving opportunities to attend again to celebrate my peers’ performances."

Nyong'o ended her caption with a wish for her followers: "I hope you can take a moment to look at where you are, look at where you started and pat yourself on the back for making it this far! #keepitfresh #flashbackfriday #OscarsHistory."

Since her win, Nyong'o has appeared in the iconic Star Wars movie franchise, Marvel's Black Panther franchise, and Jordan Peele's critically acclaimed horror film Us.

But she's recently been making headlines related to her personal life. Earlier this month, she and Joshua Jackson were photographed packing on the PDA while on vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, to celebrate Nyong'o's birthday.

The couple wore bathing suits on the beach as they embraced on the shore in one photo.

Nyong'o was first linked to Jackson, 45, in October 2023, the same month his ex Jodie Turner-Smith filed for divorce. The Little Monsters star also announced her split from her ex-boyfriend Selema Masekela that month.
