Manchester United have received a major boost ahead of the new season following a key injury update on Luke Shaw.

During the past season, Man United suffered a defensive disasterclass, conceding 58 goals in the Premier League to finish the campaign on an embarrassing -1 goal difference.

While poor performances on the pitch were certainly at the heart of the issue, United were also severely crippled by an injury crisis that also happened to involve Shaw.

Following a muscle injury earlier in the season, Shaw picked up yet another muscle setback during United’s 2-1 win over Luton Town in February, with the left-back limping off the field heavily after just 20 minutes. This time, he was sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Despite his injury woes, United’s star left-back was selected by Gareth Southgate for England’s Euro 2024 squad.

While there was initially hope that Shaw may appear in the group stages of the competition, he ultimately did not feature.

In fact, after England’s second group stage game – a 1-1 draw with Denmark – it emerged that Shaw was still not in group training with the rest of the squad.

Only ahead of the final group stage game, namely a goalless draw against Slovenia, did the 28 year old return to training. Although he never appeared in the clash, it seems as if Shaw’s wait to return to action may finally be nearing its end.

The Guardian have reported that Shaw has confirmed that he will be available for selection for England’s round of 16 clash with Slovakia on Sunday.

Following the draw with Slovenia, the player was asked when he would return to action, to which he responded, “Next game.”

For England, Shaw’s return to fitness will be a welcome sight, especially as the only natural left-back in the squad. For United, his recovery is perhaps even more vital with the 2024-2025 season fast approaching.

Still, it may be in United’s best interest for Shaw not to be rushed back to action too soon, particularly so as not to aggravate his injury following what has been a long and gruelling road to recovery.
