Luke Richardson Provides Another Update On Laurent Brossoit
The Chicago Blackhawks have had better goaltending all around than they expected coming into the year. Petr Mrazek has mostly always been reliable in a Blackhawks uniform but Arvid Soderblom has taken it to the next level.
During the off-season, the Hawks also signed Laurent Brossoit as they were looking to stabilize their goaltending situation. Despite trying to be a bit better this year with more veterans, it is still a development year and good goaltending helps with that.
Unfortunately, Brossoit hasn't been available for the Hawks yet this season. He is currently dealing with a meniscus injury that has kept him out since before the season started.
That is a tough injury that can linger and it has for Brossoit. The good news is that Soderblom has played well in Brossoit's absence so there is no reason to rush him back if he isn't truly ready.
It would be a big boost to get a good veteran like Brossoit in there though. Last year with a very good Winnipeg Jets team, he had outstanding numbers as the Vezina Trophy-winning Connor Hellebuyck's backup.
His record was 15-2-2 with a .927 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average. He didn't play much but when he was in there, he proved that he should be playing more often. Chicago is supposed to be giving him that opportunity but he's hurt.
Luke Richardson on Laurent Brossoit, who has been out well beyond the original timeline with a meniscus injury: "Slow progression. Really no timeline. We kind of had a timeline, hoping for earlier in the year but we just had to adjust that because it wasn't ready."
Any concern…— Charlie Roumeliotis (@CRoumeliotis) November 9, 2024
On Saturday, head coach Luke Richardson provided an update on Broissoit and admitted that they've had to adjust Brossoit's initial timetable. He compared it to what is going on with Thatcher Demko and the Vancouver Canucks.
When he comes back, it will be interesting to see what they do with their current three-man situation. Arvid Soderblom going to dominate with the Rockford IceHogs seems likely but you never know. Drew Commesso isn't playing half-bad down there already.
The good news is that they will have some solid goaltending at their fingertips right now. With young talented players developing throughout the organization, it is good to have this much depth at the position.
Hopefully, everyone keeps playing well and Brossoit returns sooner rather than later. It didn't sound like Richardson is optimistic about it being soon but only time will tell.
