Romelu Lukaku and Giovanni Di Lorenzo celebrate the victory over Roma, but also warn this is a ‘process’ for Napoli and it is ‘too early to talk about the Scudetto.’

The pressure was on the Partenopei after their lead at the top of the table had been cut down to one point going into the break for international duty.

With Inter, Atalanta and Fiorentina all winning, they knew only a victory would keep hold of first place, which they secured against Claudio Ranieri’s Roma thanks to Lukaku sliding in to meet the Di Lorenzo low cross from six yards.

It was the first time that Lukaku had faced Roma since leaving the club over the summer, having been there on loan from Chelsea last term.

“When we arrive at the stadium, we can feel the way the fans push us on. We won today and we are happy,” Lukaku told Sky Sport Italia.

“I just want to do well for the team. We have a process that we need to go through, we knew it would be tough because the other sides won, but we got the result we wanted too.

“We’ve got to take it one game at a time, it’s too early to talk about the Scudetto. We just try to improve every game and keep going.”

The best chance to equalise saw Artem Dovbyk’s header thump the crossbar from a free kick, but Napoli dominated possession at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

This result means they are still one point clear of Inter, Atalanta and Fiorentina, while Lazio can also catch that group with a win over Bologna this evening.

“The others are winning, but we are not looking at the table right now. We just have to keep the growth process going, we know it will be a long season, we are happy with the performance and the way the fans cheered us on,” said Di Lorenzo on Sky Sport Italia.

“Romelu is a great player, we knew that, but what really amazed me was how nice he is. He helps us all the way through the week. You judge him on his statistics, but we evaluate him based on how hard he works for the team and how he graces us with his experience.”

Is this a signal to the rest of the league after Napoli had one point from two matches against Atalanta and Inter?

“We do not need to send signals to anyone. It’s a process, we know there will be setbacks along the way, some of them painful, but we’re on the right track.”
