Lucy Bronze has officially signed for Chelsea following the conclusion of her contract with the current champions of Spain, Barcelona. The Lioness makes her highly anticipated return to the Women’s Super League on a two-year contract with the Blues.

Bronze left the WSL on two occasions in her senior career to pursue dream moves abroad with Lyon and Barcelona. She has previously lifted the English league title with both Manchester City and Liverpool.

Bronze is a well-accomplished player who has trophies and success running through her blood. The 32-year-old has assembled more than 400 appearances throughout her senior career and has a lot of silverware to her name. The defender has won five Champions League titles, eight league trophies throughout her time in England, France and Spain’s top flights, and of course the historic Euro 2022 title with the Lionesses.

Upon her return to England, Bronze said: “To know I’m a Chelsea player still feels a little bit surreal. I’m really excited to be back in England. I’m excited to be in London, and to be at a club that is renowned for winning so many trophies.”

Not only does Bronze boast a superb club record, she also holds an impressive international portfolio. Since making her senior debut in 2013, the newly signed Blue has been one of the Lionesses’ most remarkable and reliable performers on the international stage. Bronze played a crucial role in the historic England team that won Euro 2022 on home soil.

“Lucy will bring leadership to the group. She is a serial winner and a versatile defender. She has lots of experience and a winning mentality which we feel will fit well into the squad,” Chelsea general manager Paul Green said.

With Chelsea still keen to put their hands on the one trophy they are yet to win, the Champions League, Sonia Bompastor will hope the signing of the experienced Lucy Bronze will help the club finally triumph in Europe.
