Lotito Reveals Why Lazio Appointed Baroni, Reason Behind Sarri & Tudor Departures

Lazio president Claudio Lotito unveiled Marco Baroni as the club’s new manager in a press conference on Monday. The Biancoceleste patron reached an agreement with the former Hellas Verona coach after parting ways with Igor Tudor who only lasted three months at Formello.

But while Baroni isn’t the most renowned name, Lotito insists the club isn’t planning to downsize the project, but picked the former Lecce boss due to his great professionalism, as he explained in the press conference (via LazioNews24).

This is an opportunity to take stock of the situation and dispel notions that do not correspond to reality. Lazio is not making any downsizing, but rather trying to reward merit. The choice of Baroni is thought out and desired, based on the coach’s quality and the path that Lazio wants to embark on.

Today, club icons no longer exist, players make choices based on today’s world. So we want to start again from the professionalism of Baroni, who will pick whoever deserves to play based on the performances in training and matches.

The Lazio owner then looked back on the exits of Maurizio Sarri and Tudor, revealing that the two managers had problems controlling the locker room.

Last season we had two coaches, who had no problems with the club. Lazio does not put itself at the service of the coaches, but the coaches must put themselves at the service of Lazio.

We want an organized, efficient team that puts on a show. Last season Lazio did not fail, it lost to the less equipped teams and therefore the problem was in the dressing room, in the mind and not in the strength of the team.

We want to bring Lazio’s interest back to the center. Those who deserve to play must take the field. The results speak for Baroni, he earned this bench on the field and I am convinced that he will do well.

Lotito also revealed the real price tag of his new signing Tijjani Noslin while accusing the media of belittling his work on the market.

Noslin is not costing us €15 million, but €20 million. I want to clarify once and for all that you are saying things that are not true. We will communicate the actual cost of the players. You always try to belittle our work. We are making the purchases together with the coach. We also have a scouting room that proposes talents to the coach.

Lazio is making frightening investment the, like new radio, the new academy. I am fed up with the stupidities. Lazio does what it can do, you must always relate the market to the turnover. If the fans do not buy a season ticket they are doing an injustice to Lazio and not to Lotito.

Last year Lazio’s objective was to reach the Champions League, but we lost games to smaller teams. Sarri resigned because he found people in the locker room who took stances that he didn’t like. The same goes for Tudor. So Baroni has carte blanche, his football philosophy rewards merit.

The club patron also discussed various topics from last season, including Luis Alberto’s change of mind and Sarri’s requests on the market.

Luis Alberto asked for a contract renewal and then suddenly made that famous statement, because he was suffering physically. We signed strong players.

Sarri asked for Berardi who was injured, he also wanted Ricci but we took Rovella instead. Ideas and organization make the difference, a player who costs 100 million is no better than one who costs 50 million. We are taking players for the future.

Kamada’s agent asked for 2.5 million for a one-year renewal. Lazio today has institutional, political and economic strength and is one of the clubs with the most real estate assets. I work for the club’s interest. When we came in second place, I rewarded the players, but I didn’t take any rewards for myself.
