‘If I lose’ – New Barcelona signing Szczęsny speaks out on Iñaki Peña competition

New Barcelona signing Wojciech Szczęsny has on Wednesday evening for the first time spoken out on the competition awaiting him between the posts at the club.

The name of goalkeeper Szczęsny has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines across all of Spain over the last couple of hours.

This comes after confirmation was forthcoming that the Pole has officially stepped out of retirement, to join Barcelona.

After he was contacted over a potential joining of forces in the aftermath of the long-term injury suffered by Marc-André ter Stegen, Szczęsny today penned terms with the Blaugrana through the close of the campaign.

Late this evening, the former Arsenal and Juventus star, in turn, sat down for his first exchange with the media, as a Barca player.

And, amidst as much, one subject of particular interest touched upon came in the form of the impending battle awaiting Szczęsny between the posts in Catalunya.

Drawn on the competition posed by Iñaki Peña, the 34-year-old was characteristically honest in his response:

“If I lose the competition, and Iñaki Peña plays well this season, I won’t be sad. The club asked me to help, and I will do it.”
