Longo: A ‘delicate’ situation – Theo could be entering his ‘last months’ at Milan
Theo Hernandez’s contract renewal has been a heavy focus in recent months, and whilst updates have offered wavering confidence, AC Milan could be seeing the last few months of the player.
The situation with Theo is a confusing one. Reports have extensively suggested that both parties want to continue together, but there has been a clear drop-off in performances from the Frenchman, and there is a problem.
As has been widely reported, Hernandez is asking for a contract that would make him among the highest earners at the club – for the Frenchman of old, fair enough, but this is the issue, where is that player?
On Friday, he struggled once again, and this is not a rare occurrence, but rather a worrying consistency which is showing no signs of stopping yet.
For this reason, it would be difficult for Milan to offer the 27-year-old a deal like the one he is requesting, simply due to value. At present, it is only dropping to the Rossoneri, and with his contract getting closer to expiry, a decision must be made.
Due to these factors, Daniele Longo has suggested that this could be the last months of Theo with the Diavolo, as his contract situation is increasingly ‘delicate’.
It is also worth noting that this was referenced in a piece about the January mercato, and whilst it is highly improbable that he would depart during mid-season, the club could look for a deputy/replacement.
