Logan Hensler Could Be a Strong Selection for Montreal
As I embark on covering another All-American Prospect Game, one player who has been in that spotlight is Logan Hensler. Fresh off a gold-medal-winning performance for Team USA at the 2025 World Junior Championship, this right-handed defenseman will be sought after in the 2025 NHL Draft. Scouts have been watching him for a while.
As a true freshman, he has seven points in 17 games. That’s very good considering he’s playing against players in their 20s in most cases. He’s still 18, and he’s always been mature for his age and playing up in competition many times.
At 6’2” he has good measurables, he’s playing good minutes in college and he has good speed and the ability to move the puck up ice safely. He makes safe clears. Hensler has a pro shot but he’s not been in an offensive role at the World Juniors or Wisconsin so if you go back to his last year with the U18 team, he had 32 points in 61 games in 2023-24.
I believe he’s a Swiss army knife type of player who can play a variety of roles on the blueline. That’s valuable and that’s why he has a chance to be a Top 10 pick in the draft. I believe the Canadiens need a defenseman like this in their system. You can never have too many rearguards to begin with but he could be a terrific second pairing defenseman with a chance to play up to the top pairing with continued development.
