Top performers Virgil van Dijk, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota are not part of the Reds’ traveling squad and it’s likely that youngsters such as Sepp van den Berg and Jarell Quansah will be given more game time.

Arsenal made five changes from the Bournemouth game when taking on Manchester United with Martin Odegaard, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Jesus, Jorginho and Oleksandr Zinchenko handed starting roles.

Thomas Partey, Gabriel, Martinelli and Kai Havertz all made substitute appearances for Arteta’s men against the Red Devils and that quartet will be pushing for a starting role. Arteta has also hinted that new signing Riccardo Calafiori could potentially get some minutes after his signing was confirmed on Monday.

Arsenal aiming to end US tour on a high

The Gunners secured a penalty shootout victory over Bournemouth after the pair battled to a 1-1 draw in California and Mikel Arteta fielded many familiar names in the success over the Cherries.

Arsenal built on that by beating Manchester United 2-1 at the SoFi Stadium, where the Red Devils won a pre-arranged penalty shootout at the end of the contest.

Brazilian duo Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli were on the scoresheet in a game which saw Man Utd duo Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro forced off with injury. Arteta will be pleased that his squad came out of that contest unscathed.

A strong Liverpool side, featuring Mohamed Salah, were too good for Real Betis in Pittsburgh on Saturday and the Reds will be hoping to build on that 1-0 victory by claiming another pre-season success.

Arne Slot is just settling into the role as the manager of the Anfield outfit and it will be interesting to see how Liverpool shape up against a top-level Arsenal side.

The Dutchman opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation against Betis, with Harvey Elliot operating in an unfamiliar forward role, but we may see a change of shape against the Gunners.

Liverpool have ground to make up on Arsenal on last season’s evidence in the Premier League and the Reds will be hoping to show that they remain a title-chasing force.
