Liverpool Transfer News Today: Salah INTEREST, defensive targets IDENTIFIED

Here is all your latest Liverpool transfer news today (Monday 9 September). There is interest in Mohamed Salah and a contract update, Liverpool are searching for defensive reinforcements and are monitoring multiple midfield options.

Salah wanted by two European giants

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has less than a year left on his contract at Anfield - unsurprisingly, that means he’s attracting interest from elsewhere.

The Reds winger signed a three-year extension to his deal in the summer of 2022, but that deal is set to expire in June 2025, with no clear indication yet on whether he’ll be staying or leaving.

The star was the subject of major interest from Saudi Arabia last summer, with Al-Ittihad seeing a big-money bid rejected. But Salah is reported to be wary of moving to the Middle East, after seeing the declining reputation of his former Anfield team-mate Sadio Mane since heading to Saudi Arabia.

Salah is also receiving interest from Europe though, with Catalan newspaper El Nacional reporting that both Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have made enquiries, and are willing to make him an offer.

PSG are said to see Salah as the perfect complement to their attack, having lost Kylian Mbappe this summer, while Juve are seeking a player with experience and quality to lead their new project under Thiago Motta.

Liverpool in for two defenders

The transfer window has only just closed, but Liverpool may already be on the hunt to bolster their defensive line.

That might seem surprising, given that the Reds have won their opening three matches of the Premier League season, without conceding a single goal, to sit joint top of the table.

The Reds were linked with several defenders during the summer, and reports are now suggesting that boss Arne Slot is continuing a pursuit of two of them.

The first is Juventus defender Gleison Bremer. Liverpool were said to be chasing the Brazilian international this summer, with reports that he would cost more than the £36m that it took to lure Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig in 2021.

The second player linked, by Fichajes, is Goncalo Inacio, of Portuguese side Sporting.

Rodri transfer could scupper Liverpool plans

Liverpool were heavily linked with moves for a defensive midfielder this summer, as they pondered whether to strengthen the spine of their team.

The Anfield side have been attempting to bolster their midfield since Fabinho departed for Saudi Arabia a year ago, but were unable to complete deals for their priority targets.

According to the Daily Mail though, the Reds have now been exploring a move to sign England international Adam Wharton.

Manchester City are also said to be interested, and could step up that interest significantly if they lose fellow defensive midfielder Rodri to Real Madrid.

The Spaniard has been crucial to City’s success in recent seasons, scoring the winner in the Champions League final against Inter in Istanbul, to seal the treble a year ago.

Despite Ryan Gravenberch’s impressive start to the season, Liverpool continue to be linked with signings for the holding midfield role.

Speaking on The Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Tchouameni in the summer of 2025.

The renowned transfer guru immediately put the breaks on this transfer deal though, revealing that Real Madrid and their boss Carlo Ancelotti have no intention of letting the 24-year-old leave the club.

“The intention of Real Madrid is to keep Aurelien Tchouameni as a crucial player for their project for present and future. They are in love with Tchouameni, with the player, with the professional and how he adapted also at the centre back position was something really appreciated by the technical staff at Real Madrid.”

That’s according to a new report in Football Insider, which claims that concerns over who could come in to replace the Egyptian when his contract expires next summer have led the Reds’ transfer hierarchy to consider a renewal the best option.

Salah, 32, last renewed his contract in 2022 with his current terms extending to 2025. However, the goalscorer has made it publicly known in recent weeks that he considers this his final season at Anfield

That has been interpreted in some quarters as an attempt to put pressure on the club into offering a new deal but so far no terms have been reached between the parties.

The £350,000 per-week superstar was the subject of intense transfer interest from Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2023 but Liverpool opted not to cash in on a substantial £150m offer.
