Liverpool transfer news today: deal could still be DONE, Guehi a TARGET

Here is all your Liverpool transfer news today (Sunday 1 August) as one more arrival could be heading to Anfield and missed deadline day deal could be revived in January.

Liverpool could still sign Rabiot

Although the transfer window is now shut clubs are still able to sign free-agents. Players out of contract can still be registered with English clubs until the 13th of September and it is thanks to this loophole that Adrien Rabiot could finally be heading to Anfield.

Rabiot is a player who has been at the top of European football for the last decade, and has frequently been linked with a move to the Premier League. Having left Juventus at the end of his contract this summer, he has remained a free agent ever since.

Liverpool have been linked with Rabiot on and off for several years, but most notably these links have ramped up over the past two years as it has become clear further midfield arrivals are prioritised at Anfield.

Liverpool could revive deadline day deal in January

Liverpool came close to signing Cesar Huerta on deadline day, with plans to send him straight on loan to Sunderland. A deal never materialised however and Liverpool could potentially return for him in January.

Huerta made 21 goal contributions from the wing in Mexico's top flight last season while playing 41 matches.

Huerta will remain at Club Universidad Nacional in Mexico but Liverpool could return for the player in January.

Liverpool target Guehi for next summer

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi was hotly tipped to move to Newcastle United this summer for what would’ve been a club record combined £70m, Palace remained steadfast in sticking to their £75m asking price for a player who was one of England’s standouts at Euro 2024.

According to a report in the Mirror, Liverpool had planned to more seriously consider a move for Guehi if he remained at Palace beyond this summer, which he obviously has. Next summer Guehi will have just one year left on his current contract, which should bring down Palace’s asking price should he not renew in South London.

This means that Liverpool’s patience for which they have been quite understandably criticised might well pay off if they can target Guehi for a reduced price next summer, as is claimed.
