Liverpool U21s defeated Arsenal U21s 3-0 in dominant fashion on Friday night.

Tyler Morton and Trey Nyoni both started for Barry Lewtas' side after being regulars in first-team training this season.

Barry Lewtas made seven changes to the side which held their League Two opposition in midweek, with only goalkeeper Harvey Davies, right-back Terence Miles, left-back James Norris and forward Kieran Morrison keeping their spots.

48 hours on from coming on against West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, Morton starred for the young Reds in Borehamwood.

The 21-year-old assisted centre-back Amara Nallo for the opener, producing a perfect cross for the youngster to head home.

Morton netted Liverpool's second on the stroke of half-time in a move the midfielder started and finished.

Neil Mellor took to social media after the game to praise the 21-year-old's 'superb performance' stating that the midfielder is far too good for this level as he tries to edge himself in to Arne Slot's plans.

European interest in Morton

Following on from succesful loans at Blackburn Rovers and Hull City, Morton attracted alot of interest from teams across Europe as a move away looked likely this summer.

Mail on Sport reported that German champions Bayer Leverkusen, managed by Morton's idol Xabi Alonso, were interested in signing the midfielder on loan.

It is now likely that Morton, who featured in pre -season, will stay at the club.

The report added that the Bundesliga champions had promised the midfielder to play in at least 50 percent of games this season if he remains fit.

Liverpool though, would have preferred a sale if they were to let Morton go with the Reds valuing him at £20 million.

RB Leipzig and Italy's Atalanta were also understood to be interested earlier in the window.
