FC Barcelona recently made an attempt to strengthen their forward line by bidding £39.7 million (€47 million) for Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez, but the Reds were quick to reject the offer, according to a report by Indykaila News.

This move is part of Barcelona’s ongoing efforts to address their striker position, but their approach has faced hurdles.

The club is acutely aware that as long as Robert Lewandowski remains at the club, it will be difficult to attract another top striker who is willing to play second fiddle.

Barcelona need a forward

Barcelona have long been in need of more depth in their attack. With Lewandowski being the main striker for years, there is a growing concern that relying solely on him is not sustainable.

The lack of a reliable backup for Lewandowski has led to the club’s sporting management, along with head coach Hansi Flick, emphasizing the need for a new addition to the forward line.

If this situation is not addressed, there is a real risk of overburdening the Polish striker, which could have negative consequences for both his performance and the team as a whole.

Options are being considered

Initially, Barcelona’s plan was to target a younger, promising player who could be acquired for a reasonable fee. One such player was Jonathan David from Lille.

However, David’s style of play does not fully align with Barcelona’s tactical needs, and the high financial demands of the deal made him less viable.

In light of this, Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has been actively exploring other options in the market.

However, there is a clear understanding that any potential signings would have to be players capable of complementing Lewandowski rather than challenging his position in the squad.

This has narrowed the club’s focus, as they are keen to find a solution that adds depth to their attack without disrupting the current squad’s dynamics.

As far as Nunez is concerned, it seems unlikely that Barcelona might actually had come up with an offer as they are already struggling to register Dani Olmo, something that his way more important than signing a striker at the moment.
