Ian Rush has expressed some enthusiasm about how he thinks Liverpool will cope in the post-Jurgen Klopp era.

The Reds will be going into the 2024/25 season with a new head coach for the first time in eight seasons.

Arne Slot’s job is to pick up where the legendary Klopp left off as he left the side in good shape.

However, it is not going to be a simple task following on from the German but Rush has shared his positive thoughts about Slot being at the helm.

RUSH EXPECTS TO SEE ANOTHER TROPHY

Slot has already got his Liverpool career underway as he has taken charge of his first game which was a friendly behind closed doors.

The real beginning for him, in front of fans at least, is in the United States as the Reds take on Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United during their time there.

Rush is out in America following the team during their pre-season tour and he was asked about the transition period on ESPN.

He said: “Yes it's a big task to replace Jurgen, always going to be difficult but I'm happy now, I'm glad he didn't leave last year because last year worried me a bit.

“Jurgen’s had another year now and he's got some good players, he’s made another transmission in the new team, we've got a lot of young players and we got a decent team now so I'm actually looking forward to it.”

One of the things on the top of Slot’s list will be to analyse those youngsters coming through in America to see who will be part of his plans.

Rush would like to see those youthful players take Liverpool to another trophy as he was asked about what he expects to see at the end of the campaign.

“I would take Champions League again, we made it now so I think what you're looking to try and improve on last season.

“I think looking at Champions League and looking at a trophy again to keep everyone going and the fans right behind Slot.

“Believe me the fans are right behind him and he'll get his first chance now and hopefully we can now go onwards and upwards,” said the former Liverpool forward.
