Liverpool opt to extend contract of goalkeeper Kirby
Liverpool have decided to take up an option to extend the contract of goalkeeper Faye Kirby.
The Reds announced the news via a post on their official club website just a short time ago.
The 20-year-old joined Liverpool from neighbours Everton in summer 2022. The youngster went on to make five appearances for The Reds in all competitions in her first season with the club.
Last season saw Kirby loaned to SWPL1 club Aberdeen but she sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury early in her spell with The Dons and has spent several months in rehabilitation.
Kirby is one for the future at Liverpool and the club have moved to extend her contract ahead of the new season.
After signing on again with Liverpool, Kirby said “It’s a good feeling. Last season I obviously got injured and one of the first things that comes into your mind is, where will I be next year?
“Beardy [Matt Beard] and the staff spoke with me early on and that kind of put my mind at ease, so it was a case of work hard in rehab and then we go from there, so it’s nice to know I’ve got all the support I need to come back.”
Liverpool kick-off the new Barclays Women’s Super League season with a home fixture against Leicester City on Sunday.
